Change wheels to solve a riding problem, not just to go bigger

If your OMW board already feels comfortable on your usual route, keep its current wheels. Change them when you can name the problem: too much road vibration, a paved ride that feels too terrain-focused, or a route that now includes rougher ground.

For a low, agile street setup on Gladius or Lancer, choose 92 mm MAD Mini. For paved-road carving with more clearance than 92 mm, choose 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2. For relaxed cruising over imperfect pavement, choose 125 mm MAD MAX on a compatible OMW board. For broken pavement and mixed routes, choose 150 mm pneumatic tires. Choose 175 mm pneumatic tires when rough ground and obstacle clearance are the priority.

Start with the route table, then use the recommendation for your board below. This guide focuses on Gladius, Lancer, Cavalry and Hussar owners deciding whether to change their everyday setup.

Choose for the surface you ride most

Your everyday riding Our starting recommendation The tradeoff to accept
Smooth streets where a low, agile setup matters most 92 mm MAD Mini on Gladius or Lancer Less ground clearance and more road feedback than larger wheels.
Mostly smooth pavement, with carving and a direct street feel 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2 You feel more road texture than with pneumatic tires.
Paved cruising with cracks and uneven patches 125 mm MAD MAX on Lancer, Cavalry or Hussar; available on Gladius as an OMW custom configuration A more relaxed, less agile feel than 105 mm.
Repeated broken pavement, rough connectors and light trails 150 mm pneumatic tires in a matched OMW setup Pressure checks and possible tube or tire repairs. On Lancer, expect a substantial range reduction from the street-wheel setup.
Regular rough ground or gravel where clearance matters most 175 mm pneumatic tires on Cavalry or Hussar A larger, more terrain-focused setup to live with.

A short rough section does not automatically justify changing your whole board. If most of the trip is good pavement, slowing down or taking a smoother line through that section may suit you better than fitting the largest tire.

What we recommend for your OMW board

Gladius: choose a low 92 mm setup, stock 105 mm, or custom 125 mm

Keep the stock 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2 for everyday paved riding when you want more clearance than the smaller street option. Choose 92 mm MAD Mini for a lighter, more agile feel and a lower riding position on good pavement. The smaller wheels bring more road feedback and less clearance, so they suit smooth streets rather than rough ground.

With the Gladius 92 mm configuration, the standard 20 mm riser pad can be reduced to 10 mm. This lowers the riding position further. Order the matched Gladius wheel and riser configuration rather than treating a pad change as a universal adjustment for every wheel size.

If you prefer 125 mm MAD MAX for paved cruising, OMW can build a custom Gladius setup. It requires a riser taller than the standard 20 mm pad to provide the necessary clearance. Ask OMW for the custom Gladius 125 mm configuration; do not fit 125 mm wheels with the unchanged stock riser. Wheel diameters larger than 125 mm are not recommended for Gladius.

Lancer: move to 125 mm when paved-road cruising needs more cushioning

Choose 92 mm MAD Mini if you want a lower, lighter and more agile Lancer for smooth streets. Keep 105 mm if you enjoy its direct response and carving with a little more clearance. Choose the Lancer-specific 125 mm MAD MAX wheel set when cracks and uneven asphalt are the main reason you want a change.

The dedicated 150 mm pneumatic set turns Lancer into an all-terrain setup for mixed surfaces and light trails. The tradeoff is a substantial reduction in range compared with its street-wheel setup. Choose 150 mm when terrain comfort matters more than distance. If your priority is a longer paved commute, stay with a street-wheel setup instead.

For a Lancer conversion, buy the Lancer-specific wheel set rather than the Cavalry/Hussar set. The Gladius riser-pad instructions above do not apply to Lancer.

Cavalry: keep 175 mm for rough routes; use a street set for mostly paved riding

The Cavalry's stock 175 mm pneumatic tires suit the rough-route job the board is built to handle. Keep them if gravel and uneven ground are a regular part of your rides. Choose 150 mm pneumatic tires if you still want air cushioning but prefer a lower, less bulky mixed-route setup.

If your Cavalry now spends its time on pavement, choose 125 mm MAD MAX for relaxed cruising or 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2 for a more direct carving feel. You do not need to stay on an all-terrain tire simply because the board came with one.

Hussar: keep 150 mm for mixed commuting; change only for a different priority

The Hussar's stock 150 mm pneumatic tires are a useful starting point for commuting over imperfect pavement and mixed surfaces. Keep them if comfort across that route is already good. Move to 175 mm when rougher terrain and more clearance become the priority.

For a Hussar used mainly on paved roads, choose 125 mm MAD MAX for cruising or 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2 for street carving. Choose the wheel for the ride you want, rather than treating the larger diameter as an automatic upgrade.

Keep air tires and street wheels with a 2-in-1 package

If you want rough-route capability and a dedicated street setup, choose a 2-in-1 wheel package instead of committing to one wheel type.

Your board Stock wheels Recommended 2-in-1 combinations
Cavalry 175 mm pneumatic 175 mm + MAD 105 mm, or 175 mm + MAD MAX 125 mm
Hussar 150 mm pneumatic 175 mm + MAD 105 mm, or 175 mm + MAD MAX 125 mm

Choose the 175 + 105 mm combination for rough routes plus grip-led, precise street carving. Choose 175 + 125 mm for rough routes plus plush cruising and strong coasting. These are two alternative wheel sets that you swap for the route; they are not mixed front and rear on the same ride.

Hussar comes with 150 mm tires as standard. The recommended Hussar packages above pair a 175 mm pneumatic set with the selected street set; they are a different package choice from its stock 150 mm setup.

OMW offers significant package savings on these 2-in-1 combinations. Request the current 2-in-1 package price and state Cavalry or Hussar, plus 175 + 105 mm or 175 + 125 mm. This gets you the quote for the exact combination you want.

92 mm, 105 mm or 125 mm: choose your street feel

Choose 92 mm MAD Mini on Gladius or Lancer for a low, agile setup on smooth streets. Between 105 mm and 125 mm, OMW community riding feedback points to two distinct preferences.

MAD 105 mm: grip, quick carving and precise response

Riders describe MAD Wheelz V2 105 mm as nimble and predictable, with a planted, locked-in feel through paved-road turns. Choose it for sharp carving and a sporty connection to the board. Riders also report punchier starts with their 105 mm setups; actual acceleration depends on the matched gearing and power settings.

MAD 125 mm: plush cruising, strong coasting and a looser feel

Riders value MAD MAX 125 mm for smoother passage over pavement cracks and its long free-roll feel. Choose it for relaxed cruising and more clearance, rather than the quickest direction changes. It remains a street wheel, not a pneumatic tire.

Some experienced riders enjoy its surfy, drift-friendly character. On dusty, sandy or gravel-strewn pavement, however, it can break traction more readily. That is a cornering tradeoff, not extra safety for a beginner. Build familiarity on clean, dry pavement and avoid aggressive cornering on loose surfaces.

For a sporty Cavalry street setup focused on grip and precision, we recommend 105 mm. Choose 125 mm when comfort over pavement cracks and coasting matter more. Neither wheel guarantees grip or prevents every slide. On Gladius, the 125 mm choice requires the OMW custom raised-riser configuration described above.

150 mm or 175 mm: mixed-route comfort versus rough-ground clearance

Choose 150 mm for a lower mixed-route setup with an air cushion. Choose 175 mm for more clearance and easier rollover on rougher ground. On Cavalry and Hussar, both diameters use a 55T wheel pulley and 335-5M belt in the standard pneumatic configuration. You do not need the optional acceleration gearing just to choose between these two tire diameters.

The Cavalry's pneumatic setup pairs the tires with matched hubs, pulleys and belts.

Check pressure before spending money to solve a comfort problem. For the current OMW pneumatic tires, the starting recommendations are 30 PSI for 150 mm and 36 PSI for 175 mm. If a tire repeatedly loses pressure or has a bulge, cut or other damage, stop riding and address the tire fault before evaluating a wheel upgrade.

Order a model-matched wheel set when changing wheel type

For a standard single-set conversion, select the wheel-set option for your board below. For a Gladius 125 mm custom build or a discounted 2-in-1 package, request the specific OMW configuration described above.

  • 92 mm MAD Mini: choose the Lancer/Gladius set; request the 10 mm riser configuration when ordering a lower Gladius setup.
  • 105 mm MAD Wheelz V2: select the Lancer/Gladius set or the Cavalry/Hussar set.
  • 125 mm MAD MAX: select the Lancer set or the Cavalry/Hussar set. For Gladius, order an OMW custom build with increased riser height instead of these standard conversion options.
  • Cavalry/Hussar pneumatic wheels: select 150 mm or 175 mm for the route decision above.
  • Lancer 150 mm pneumatic wheel set: choose this dedicated Lancer kit for mixed pavement and light trails.

OMW lists the linked MAD wheel sets for its CNC-truck configurations. If your board has another truck version or a custom drivetrain, have OMW check that specific setup before you order. The route recommendations above remain the starting point for choosing the ride you want.

A bare-wheel option is for replacing wheels when you already have the required matching hardware. For a conversion, choose the model-specific set and follow its included-parts list. The Lancer 150 mm pneumatic setup uses 55T pulleys and 325-5M belts, not the 335-5M belts specified for Cavalry/Hussar.

After installation, set the actual wheel diameter and drive ratio in the remote or app using the instructions supplied with your matched set. For a custom Gladius 125 mm build, use the riser and drivetrain configuration specified by OMW for that build.

Make one change for one clear reason

If your current wheels suit the route, keep them. If you want a change, choose 92 mm for a low, agile Gladius or Lancer; 105 mm for direct street riding; 125 mm for relaxed paved cruising; 150 mm pneumatic for mixed-route cushioning; or 175 mm pneumatic for rough-ground clearance. For Cavalry or Hussar riders who want both rough-route and street setups, the recommended 2-in-1 package gives you both wheel types with package savings.
