OMW Lancer Buying Guide: Flex, Wheels and Everyday Riding

Find out whether OMW Lancer fits your riding: compare deck flex, wheel packages, standard TKP handling, published range conditions and custom DKP options.

Why choose the OMW Lancer?

The OMW Lancer brings a flexible carbon composite deck, three wheelbase-based flex settings, a 504Wh battery and direct TKP handling to a spacious street longboard. It suits riders who want room to move their feet, enjoy carving and expect to spend most of the journey riding rather than carrying.

For everyday paved commuting, start with 105mm MAD Wheelz V2. Choose the flex feel you prefer, then consider a different wheel set if your route calls for a lower street setup, more rough-pavement comfort or mixed-terrain capability. The sections below explain those choices.

If your budget is under $800, check the price of your exact wheel package and shipping option on the OMW Lancer product page. A larger-wheel or two-wheel-set package can cost more than the starting configuration.

Who should choose Lancer?

Lancer suits riders who prefer a longboard stance, want room to reposition their feet and enjoy tuning deck movement to their taste. Its longer platform is useful on uninterrupted street rides, while the wheel choices let you prioritize agile carving, rough-pavement comfort or mixed-terrain use.

Choose a different format if frequent carrying and tight storage are your biggest problems. Lancer's reference complete-board weight is 12kg / 26.5lb; wheel and accessory choices change the finished setup. Its handle helps you move it off the board, but does not turn a longboard into a compact carry-on.

For stairs and public transport, read the Gladius vs Lancer commuting comparison. Both share a 504Wh electrical platform, so choosing the longer Lancer deck does not give you a bigger battery. That comparison covers the format decision; this guide helps you choose a Lancer configuration.

A roomy deck with three flex settings

Lancer's deck size is 1000 × 260mm / 39.3 × 10.2in. These are deck measurements, not complete-board dimensions. The carbon composite construction and 10mm drop-deck shape give you space to settle into a longboard stance, with deck movement to absorb some road vibration.

The three flex settings come from Lancer's designated wheelbase mounting positions. You do not need to buy a different deck to choose High, Medium or Low Flex.

Lancer's three wheelbase positions let you adjust deck flex on the same board.

  • Low Flex: choose this if you prefer a firmer platform and less movement underfoot.
  • Medium Flex: choose this if you want noticeable flex without the most pronounced deck movement.
  • High Flex: choose this if you enjoy a more flexible, springy feel during cruising and carving.

Start with the feel you enjoy rather than treating the highest flex setting as an upgrade everyone needs. Flex is one part of the setup; it cannot replace good wheel selection or make a damaged road smooth. Use the intended mounting positions and OMW setup instructions when changing the wheelbase.

Choose wheels for the surface you actually ride

For a mostly paved route, 105mm is the straightforward starting point. Move to a different wheel size when it solves a specific problem on your route.

Lancer wheel choices and their main tradeoffs
Wheel setup Choose it for Main tradeoff
105mm MAD Wheelz V2 Everyday paved commuting, quick carving, punchy acceleration and a predictable, planted grip feel. Less clearance and rough-surface cushioning than the larger options.
92mm MAD Mini Smoother pavement and a lower, nimble street feel. Select the 105mm + 92mm package for this option. More road feedback and less ground clearance than larger wheels.
125mm MAD MAX Comfortable cruising over pavement cracks and rough surface texture. A different ride feel from the sharper, more agile 105mm setup; still a street wheel.
150mm pneumatics Mixed surfaces and light trails using Lancer's dedicated pneumatic setup. A substantial reduction in range compared with street wheels.

The practical distinction between 105mm and 125mm is your preferred street ride: choose 105mm for agile carving and a more locked-in grip feel, or 125mm for smoother cruising on rougher pavement. Neither choice guarantees traction on every surface. For mixed terrain, choose the dedicated 150mm setup rather than treating a larger urethane street wheel as an off-road conversion.

Which 2-in-1 package should you buy?

  • 105mm + 92mm: two street-wheel feels, with the smaller set for smoother routes and a lower riding position.
  • 105mm + 125mm: everyday street riding plus a more comfort-focused rough-pavement option.
  • 105mm + 150mm: street and mixed-terrain riding, provided your route allows for the pneumatic setup's range reduction.

Buy two sets when you expect to use both. If your route is consistently paved and the 105mm setup already suits it, a second set is optional. Use the Lancer-specific matched parts when changing setups.

The standard TKP setup: direct street handling

Lancer uses 9.25in forged trucks with CNC TKP baseplates. This is the starting point for riders who want its intended street-longboard feel: direct steering, a connected feel through turns and a roomy platform for longer paved rides.

Its motors face inward under the deck, keeping them within a more compact outline than an outward-facing rear arrangement. This helps with carrying and storage. The FAQ below explains motor protection and the custom DKP options for riders who specifically want tighter turning.

Battery, controls and a useful range reference

Lancer pairs a Samsung 50S 14S2P, 10Ah, 504Wh battery with a Hobbywing 9028 ESC and dual Hobbywing 5255 motors. Adjustable acceleration and braking settings let you choose a response that suits your experience and riding style.

OMW lists a tested Lancer range of 28–34 miles / 45–55km. The published test conditions are a 70kg / 154lb rider, a constant speed of about 14mph / 22.4km/h in Speed Mode 2, flat terrain, a gentle breeze and a temperature of 30°C / 86°F.

Use that figure as a test reference when comparing your route, rather than a promised commuting distance. Hills, rider load, repeated acceleration, temperature and wheel choice affect the result. Plan the full round trip with a battery reserve.

The dedicated 150mm pneumatic setup substantially reduces range compared with street wheels; do not apply the published test range to it. Choose pneumatics for the terrain benefit and plan a shorter ride. If distance is the deciding factor, compare a larger-battery OMW model rather than assuming a longer deck or larger wheel extends range.

Everyday details worth checking before ordering

  • Charging: the listed charger is 58.8V 4A, with an estimated charge time of about 2–2.5 hours. Confirm a suitable charging location as part of your commuting plan.
  • Visibility and carrying: a handle and standard tail light are part of the Lancer package; front lighting and RGB lighting are optional. Check the selected package and installation requirements before ordering accessories.
  • Deck coverage: all OMW decks have lifetime warranty coverage under the applicable warranty terms. This is deck coverage, not lifetime coverage for every component.
  • Riding conditions: OMW does not recommend riding Lancer in rain or on wet roads. Its listed maximum speed of 31mph / 50km/h is not a commuting target or approval for faster downhill riding. Learn braking and turning away from traffic, and check local riding and transit rules.

Lancer buying questions

Why are the motors under the deck, and why is there no protection bar?

Lancer was designed as a street longboard. Inward-facing motors reduce rear overhang, making the overall outline more convenient to carry and store. In the standard arrangement, the truck bottoms sit lower than the motors. This is why the design does not include a motor protection bar for ordinary street use. Sharp obstacles can still cause contact; wheel choice and your riding line remain important.

Can I adjust the flex after buying?

Yes. Use Lancer's designated wheelbase mounting positions to select High, Medium or Low Flex on the same deck. Follow OMW's setup instructions and check the assembly before riding.

Do I need a 2-in-1 wheel package?

Only if you expect to use both sets. It makes sense when you regularly ride two different kinds of route or want two distinct street-wheel feels. For one consistently paved route, a single 105mm setup is a practical starting point; the package choices above explain when a second set adds value.

Can I order Lancer with DKP trucks?

Yes, as a custom configuration discussed with OMW. For riders specifically seeking tighter turning, the team's recommended option is a DKP front truck with a TKP rear truck, retaining the rear TKP layout and inward-facing motors. A full DKP build requires rear-facing motors to avoid motor bite and has no rear bash guard protecting them. Confirm the complete custom build with OMW before ordering; standard TKP remains the straightforward choice for Lancer's intended street setup.
