When to Replace Your Electric Skateboard Belt: An OMW Guide

When should you replace an electric skateboard belt?

Look at the belt’s condition, not just the mileage. Riding conditions, debris, installation, and drive alignment can all affect wear; there is no single mileage figure that tells every OMW rider when to replace a belt.

• Missing, torn, or badly worn teeth: replace the belt and check the pulleys.
• Cracks, significant edge fraying, or exposed cords: stop using the damaged belt.
• Repeated skipping or a sudden change in drive or braking: stop riding and investigate before fitting parts or testing again.

Noise alone does not prove the belt needs replacing. Debris, incorrect tension, a damaged pulley, or another component can cause similar symptoms. A replacement belt will not correct an underlying alignment problem.

Before inspection: switch off the board and remote, disconnect the charger, and follow OMW’s maintenance instructions. Keep fingers clear of the belt and pulley pinch points. Never inspect by touching a powered, moving drivetrain.

Before you buy: identify the setup you have now

Your original order is a useful starting point. If you have changed wheels, pulleys, trucks, or motor mounts since then, the original belt recommendation may no longer apply.

1. Confirm the board model and version. Super Cavalry is a separate setup from Cavalry. If your board has older trucks or aftermarket drive parts, ask OMW to confirm compatibility.
2. Identify the wheels. Use the exact wheel name and diameter, such as 105mm MAD Wheelz V2 or the Lancer 150mm all-terrain set.
3. Check the wheel pulley. The chart’s 36T, 40T, 45T, 55T, and 60T figures refer to the wheel-side pulley, not the small motor pulley. “T” means teeth. Check its marking or your wheel-kit order.
4. Read the existing belt marking. Photograph the full code and check the belt width. If the old belt was not working correctly, do not assume its code was the right one.

What does a belt code such as 335-5M mean?

335 is the nominal pitch length in millimeters around the belt loop. 5M indicates a 5mm tooth pitch—the distance between adjacent tooth centers along the pitch line. It does not mean a 5mm-wide belt.

The shortened size codes in OMW’s listings do not state belt width. Match the complete specification and tooth profile, not just the first number. If the width or marking is unclear, send OMW a photo before ordering.

Why can the same wheels need different belts?

The belt runs between the motor and wheel pulleys. Different board and motor-mount layouts can require different loop lengths, even when the wheel size and wheel pulley match.

Both official kits use 105mm wheels and 40T pulleys. The belt sizes are different. That is why “a belt for 105mm wheels” is not enough information to order the right part.

Find your board group, then match the exact wheel-and-pulley combination. These tables cover the configurations documented in OMW’s current product listings, checked on September 3, 2026. 

For MAD Mini, MAD Wheelz V2, and MAD MAX street-wheel setups: the OMW wheel-kit listings specify compatibility with OMW CNC trucks and the older forged trucks.

Gladius and Lancer

Configuration references: MAD Wheel Belt, 97mm PU wheel set, and Lancer 150mm wheel set.

The 125mm MAD MAX and 150mm all-terrain rows above are Lancer-only listings. Do not extend those recommendations to Gladius just because the two boards share some other belt sizes.

Cavalry and Hussar

Configuration references: MAD Wheel Belt, 97mm PU wheel set, Pneumatic Tire Belt, and 165mm MAD Race wheel sets.

Do not choose by tire diameter alone. On the listed Cavalry/Hussar 6-inch and 7-inch setups, a 55T plastic pulley takes 335-5M; a 60T alloy pulley takes 355-5M.

Super Cavalry

Configuration reference: the Super Cavalry 165mm wheel kit. Its 380-5M specification should not be assumed to cover the 160mm racing-slick version or a custom setup.

Keeping your existing wheels and pulleys?

Once the configuration is confirmed, choose the matching replacement belt. You do not need to buy a full wheel kit just because a belt has worn out. Inspect the other drive components first so the new belt is not fitted over an unresolved problem.

Changing the wheel or pulley setup?

Check the required belt at the same time. For example, the listed Cavalry/Hussar pneumatic setup changes from 335-5M with 55T to 355-5M with 60T. OMW’s 60T set for OMW 6-inch / 7-inch pneumatic wheels includes matching 355-5M belts; the DIY pulley-only option is a different package.

A wheel-only package is not necessarily a complete conversion kit. Read the contents for the exact variant you select: wheels, pulleys, belts, bearings, and covers are not included in every option. Belt fit alone also does not establish wheel or deck clearance.

Before your first ride with the replacement belt

Use the OMW installation and maintenance videos for your model and wheel setup. If no guide matches your hardware, ask support rather than adapting another board’s instructions.

• Use the specified tension. A belt that is too loose can skip; overtightening can also cause problems. There is no universal finger-deflection measurement for every OMW setup.
• Check the finished assembly. Follow the applicable guide to confirm belt tracking, fasteners, and cover clearance before riding.
• After a wheel or pulley change, follow the relevant OMW setup guidance for any required settings changes, too.

If skipping, unusual resistance, or braking changes remain, stop and contact support. Do not keep tightening the belt or riding to see whether the problem disappears.

How often should I replace my electric skateboard belts?

Check them regularly and whenever the drive feels or sounds different. Replace damaged belts promptly; do not wait for a mileage target or a complete break. For model-specific inspection guidance, contact OMW support.

Can I ride home if one belt breaks?

Do not continue riding. A broken belt can affect drive and braking on that side. Stop safely and carry the board or arrange transport until it has been repaired and checked.

Can I use a belt that is only 5mm or 10mm longer?

Do not treat a nearby size as an equivalent replacement. Choose the size specified for the complete setup. The fact that a belt can be fitted over the pulleys does not confirm correct tension or compatibility.

Does “belt × 2” mean two different sizes?

No. It means two belts of the selected size. OMW’s MAD Wheel Belt listing offers two-belt packs; the Pneumatic Tire Belt listing offers two- and four-belt packs. Choose the size first, then the quantity.

Do I need to replace both belts at once?

Inspect both. If both are damaged or similarly worn, replace both. If only one has failed, check the condition of the other belt and find the cause of the failure; a two-belt pack alone does not mean both must always be replaced.

What if I cannot read the belt marking?

Send OMW your order number or approximate purchase date, the board model, the wheel name and size, and clear photos of the rear drivetrain, pulley, and both sides of the belt. Include the belt width if you can measure it safely. For a fault, add a description or an existing video—do not ride a faulty board to record one.
